I need to know how to take off formatting for MS Word Document that has had formatting done including numbers on pages, headers and footers, and Table of contents. I have tried to copy the whole handbook (it is an employee handbook) and start a new document, but that didn't work, it kept the formatting and page 5 is showing as page 2. Please HELP!!!!! This has been an on going project that I just can't figure out. Anyone who can help, PLEASE DO!!!!! Thanks!!!

In MS Word 2003 go to the Format menu and select Auto Format and choose the Options button on the Auto Format Tab then uncheck everything under Apply. If that doesn't work then you need highlight a section then go to the format menu and select reveal formatting or hit the shift &F1 key and change all of the formatting back to normal. The only other option that I have to offer is to check the Header and Footers pay special attention to the black outline box around the header or footer on each page. It should read continued as previous. It might read first page header and/or footer or section header or footer. There can be a variety of headers and footers in a document so you might want to get Microsoft Help to figure out how to remove what headers and footers you have in the document. Sorry I can't be more specific without having more informaiton or the document in front of me I can't provide much more help. Good Luck

Word versions 2002 and 2003 have a new Clear function in the Edit pull-down menu. You might try Select All and then use the Clear function. It will not affect/change fonts. To remove page numbers you might try using Header and Footer function. Table of Contents has several ways to make changes including removing all tabs and starting over with Table of Contents. Sorry I can't offer better information. The Clear function has worked for me in shorter documents. Word seems to have a mind of its own and its hard to anticipate hidden codes. DLC

1. The easiest is to choose File|Save As and change the drop-down to text
format (.txt). That strips out pretty much everything. Then you could
start a new document and choose Insert|File and add the saved text file
into a new document.
2. Another approach is within the original document, select all (Ctrl+A),
then press Ctrl+Spacebar to strip out all local formatting. Now press
Ctrl+Shift+F9 to unlink all fields (e.g. the table of contents) so they
are regular text. Then press Ctrl+N to change everything to normal style.
Press Ctrl+A again to select all, press Ctrl+C to copy. Now create a new
document and press Ctrl+V to paste in the text.
3. A third approach would be to copy the original text, then create a new
document and choose Paste Special and click Unformatted text. That also
strips all formatting.
