Paper: Lack of Career Opportunities for Administrative Assistants

I am in the process of putting together a paper for the final course in my BSM Degree program. The lack of career development for Administrative Assistants is the title of my paper and I am looking for ideas and/or comments that you can give me to help with my paper. If this paper turns out well, I will probably propose my recommendations to my company to see if they will implement changes to the current policies to allow better career plans for Admins. Please provide me with any information that you can. You can reach me by replying to this thread or directly by e-mailing me at: maendeleo55@yahoo.com. Thanks in advance for your help and I look forward to your comments.

There are actually many areas to acquire information about career development for administrative professionals, however it is up to the admin to pursue this with the powers that be at their organizations. Often it is a lack of awareness by management that these different programs exist that prevent them from permitting their administrative staff from undertaking training. Some good places to begin besides AEAP are the International Association of Administrative Professionals, www.iaap-hq.org. Also Madison Area technical college offers a fully on-line AA degree program for administrative sciences with fully transferrable units. I am a Certified Administrative Professional with IAAP and the MATC program gave me 24 transferrable units before I took a single class because of this. This is an ideal route for those admins who are working full time and would like to pursue higher education goals, bachelor degree, etc. but did not have any college right out of school. For more information go to www.matcmadison.edu and query the AA program for Administrative Sciences. I believe June Sarbacker is the contact. Victoria Hahn on 8/2/2008 9:08:19 AM
